Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged Arne Slot's side to be strengthened with the final piece of their Premier League-winning puzzle.
Despite the Dutchman's side losing just one match this season, recent draws against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest have allowed Arsenal to close in, cutting their lead to just four points.
With a long season ahead, defensive injuries have increased. Ibrahima Konate was sidelined for a long time and although he has now returned to the backline, Joe Gomez is still out with a hamstring injury suffered just after Christmas.
Carragher, who has made more than 700 appearances for the Reds, fears a lack of reinforcements at the back could spell trouble for his former side. That's why he wants them to sign a versatile, left-sided defender in January, believing it would make the title as good as theirs.
“Looking at Liverpool, Arsenal will gain confidence that they are not great defensively at the full-backs at the moment,” Carragher said on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold is the type of player you can put behind him. At the moment Andy Robertson is struggling. We've all been there as players and he's going through that now.
“Liverpool doesn't have a player that every other club has: a left-sided defender who can play as a centre-back or as a left-back. Arsenal have Riccardo Calafiori, Manchester United have Lisandro Martínez, Chelsea have Levi Colwill and Manchester City have Nathan Aké.
“Even Tottenham have Micky van de Ven. Liverpool need a left-sided defender who can do a bit of both. If Liverpool sign that player in January, I'm sure they will win the league.”
Following Tuesday's defeat in Nottingham, the Anfield legend took to social media platform X with a clear demand: “Buy a defender!!!” With the left side identified as a weak spot, several players have been linked with a possible move.
Fulham's Antonee Robinson, Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez and Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies have all seen their names linked, but Carragher would prefer a signing who can also play as a left-sided centre-back to practically take the club's record, which equals the 20th national title.
