Barcelona President Joan Laporta called to stand in €4.7m fraud case

Barcelona president Joan Laporta made an impassioned defense of himself and attacked his opposition on Tuesday, but he is due to appear in court next Monday. He will testify in a fraud case, although it has nothing to do with his time at Barcelona.

According to Marca, Laporta will testify at a local court in Barcelona on Monday about an alleged case of fraud amounting to €4.7 million. The incident dates back to 2014, when a family (husband, wife and daughter) won €34 million in the lottery. When they went to buy a luxury car, they were advised to invest in companies promoted by Laporta.

The case revolves around one company in particular, CSSB Limited, where they invested €2.4 million over a three-year period at an annual interest rate of 6%. However, the defendants claim that the contract is not valid because it was written in English and without a legible signature. Laporta reportedly acted as a consultant in the operation, acting on behalf of CSSB Limited. The family was even invited to the VIP seats at Camp Nou, but did not receive the promised money after the described period, and the company is said to have ultimately received 4.7 million euros from the money they invested.
