Benjamin Sesko's agent has spoken out about his client's future, stating that he expects the Slovenian striker to stay at RB Leipzig this month.
Speculation over linking Arsenal with Sesko, who was their top attacking target last summer before the 21-year-old decided to extend his stay in the Bundesliga last June, has increased in recent days following the confirmation of Gabriel Jesus' devastating ACL injury .
When asked whether Sesko has the quality to play for Arsenal, player agent Elvis Basanovic told Slovenian TV channel Arena Sport: “I think you have to ask Mr Arteta. But I think Sesko would suit many clubs because he has different football skills. In attack he can play alone, with two strikers, a little further back, he has length, speed, technical speed.”
When Basanovic specifically asked if Arsenal had made any inquiries, he added: “I can't answer that question for you.”
Sesko's long-term Leipzig contract runs until the summer of 2029 and does not contain a termination clause. While Arsenal retain an interest, it is understood they believe he is unavailable for transfer this month and are instead exploring other potential market opportunities.
Basanovic also revealed that a future move will only be considered if it is beneficial for the player's development. After much deliberation, the attacker and his entourage jointly decided not to go to the Premier League before the 2024 European Championship, while not only Arsenal was at the table.
Basanovic explained: “Benjamin Sesko really shines, I think this is a development phase. I think we have already shown in the past that we stick to the development path, that we do not look at the current form.
“Our decision on the next step, the transfer, has never and will never come from current form, but from who can offer Sesko the best platform for his development.
“We can see that our decision was right. Six months later, he is already a better striker than last season. What he lacks is experience. We have to remember that he is only 21 years old, so we didn't want him to do that .” Going to the Premier League in the summer. There were concrete options, but we consciously chose to stay in the Bundesliga to give him time to develop and develop into a better striker.”
When asked what price Leipzig would need to consider a sale, Sesko's representative was firm in his response, adding: “I don't think Leipzig would be satisfied with any compensation at this point. Leipzig wants Don't sell Benjamin.” Sesko because they really appreciate him very much.”
