Real Madrid 5-2 Celta Vigo (aet): Hosts blitz through extra time in chaotic cup tie

Brazilian teenage sensation Endrick was the man of the moment for Real Madrid on Thursday. He came off the bench to score twice in extra time and help his side win 5–2 at home to Celta Vigo in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey.

The match itself looked like it would be a routine win for the hosts, with Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior finding the net either side of half-time to put them in a strong position.

But things went wrong for Carlo Ancelotti's side in the final ten minutes of the 90, starting with Jonathan Bamba's goal in the 83rd minute to get Celta back into it.

Pablo Duran had initially taken advantage of an Eduardo Camavinga mistake in possession, before setting it up for Bamba to strike and make things interesting.

The visitors then forced extra time through an injury time penalty given away by Raul Asencio for a mistimed tackle on Bamba. Marcos Alonso beat Andriy Lunin from the spot to set up another half hour.

But it was during that period that Madrid began to pull away, taking the lead again through Endrick's clever turn and shot in the 108th minute.

Federico Valverde smashed one in from long range four minutes later, before Endrick made it a rout after 119 minutes with a delightful back-heeled move that curled into the goal.

Data debrief: Madrid are going goal-crazed

This match was Real Madrid's second straight game to end 5-2, although this time they were on the right side after losing to Barcelona in the Supercopa de España last weekend.

Following the result, they have now won eight of their last ten matches in all competitions.

They are currently on a five-match winning streak at the Bernabeu before hosting Las Palmas on Sunday.
