Borussia Dortmund are trying to convince Marcus Rashford to join on loan after further talks on Thursday.
Rashford was once again left out of United's squad on Thursday evening as the side recorded a dramatic 3-1 comeback win against Southampton.
The England international's brothers have also held further talks with AC Milan and Barcelona.
The development comes after the 27-year-old admitted in an impressive interview last month that he is ready to leave his boyhood club and has not played under Ruben Amorim since. Rashford made just one match selection in the past month.
Reports in Germany this week confirmed the desperation of Nuri Sahin's side to bring in reinforcements in January after a dismal first half of their campaign.
They are currently tenth in the Bundesliga and, following the sale of Donyell Malen to Aston Villa, are now keen to land Rashford.
Last season, Dortmund secured a short-term loan for Jadon Sancho after he also fell out of favor with the Red Devils chiefs.
Milan remain in the list to sign the winger in the short term. Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently confirmed his side's attempts to sign Rashford, saying: 'I know Marcus well, I played with him when he was young.
'It's not an easy operation, but we haven't spoken to him yet. We'll see if we can talk to him.'
However, the club will have to make a decision on which England star they want to bring in, due to some Serie A registration rules, after also registering their interest in Kyle Walker.
The club has only one spot left in the squad for a British player due to a post-Brexit regulation change.
Restrictions say Italian teams will only be allowed to bring in two non-EU team members each year, with one bonus English or Albanian ace allowed.
Elsewhere, Napoli continue to discuss a move for Alejandro Garnacho from United but have so far been reluctant to meet the £65m valuation.
