Arsenal transfer news: Gyokeres transfer approved as Benzema call made

Arsenal need a striker and they need one now.

The Gunners are struggling in attack, with injuries starting to bite – the latest to be brought down is Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian will be sidelined for most of the season with a serious knee injury.

Despite this, they received a huge helping hand from Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke to win the North London derby on Wednesday. The former Bournemouth player's own goal leveled the issue of Heung Min-son's strike.

Leandro Trossard then scored a big three points, while transfer rumors continued to swirl in the aftermath. Watch the latest transfer talk from Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours here:

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has given the green light to a stunning move from Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres. The Gunners are in desperate need of a striker and the Swede is seen as the perfect man for the job.

According to French outlet L'Equipe, Arsenal are 'no longer reluctant' to spend money on Manchester United's goal. Gyokeres has a €100 million release clause written into his Sporting contract, something the Gunners are now looking to activate.

Gyokeres is not the only candidate being considered by Arsenal for a January transfer. Newcastle star Alexander Isak is a target, while Lille striker Jonathan David is also on the club's list.

Ex-Real Madrid star Karim Benzema is not considering retirement after being told to sign for Arsenal. Rio Ferdinand has instructed the North London team to make a move for the Frenchman.

Speaking on TNT Sport, he said: “I would go and get Benzema. I would say give me a six-month loan, take that.”

Meanwhile, Benzema plans to continue playing despite now being 37. He has not set a limit on hanging up his boots as the veteran still has 18 months left on his current contract with Saudi side Al-Ittihad.

Another striker Arsenal have been linked with is Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo. He has had a sensational season so far, scoring 13 goals in 21 Premier League games this term.

But it seems the Bees are in no mood to sell. Asked whether his side could sell Mbeumo this month, Brentford boss Thomas Frank said: “No. So it's very easy to answer that question!”

Mbeumo's teammate Yoane Wissa is also being courted by a host of Premier League clubs this month, including Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
