Borussia Dortmund are determined to sign Marcus Rashford on loan after holding more talks with the Manchester United outcast on Thursday.
Rashford was once again left out of the squad as the Red Devils awaited Southampton and his future under Ruben Amorim looked increasingly bleak. He has not been involved since the beginning of December and has therefore had to look for possible ways out.
Dortmund are among the identified players and would like to have him for the rest of the season. His brother and representative has also held further talks with AC Milan and Barcelona.
Jadon Sancho made the switch from Manchester to Dortmund this time last year once he had disappeared from the first-team picture and was able to rediscover his best form – which could appeal to Rashford – as well as the prospect of working with Erik ten Hag. once more.
The former United boss, who was sacked just months ago, has worked as a 'shadow coach' at Dortmund, with pressure mounting on their manager Nuri Sahin after several defeats. Under Ten Hag, Rashford had his best season ever, scoring thirty times.
Sky Germany reports that Ten Hag is known to have a 'very good' relationship with Dortmund advisor and former captain Matthias Sammer, adding fuel to speculation that he could eventually be Nuri Sahin's replacement at the currently struggling team in the Bundesliga.
Reports in Germany this week confirmed Sahin's desperation to bring in new faces in January after results in the first half of the season continued to be disappointing. They are currently in tenth place and have just sold Donyell Malen to Aston Villa, increasing their need for recruits in attack.
Rashford was left out of the Manchester derby in early December and has not played since as the academy graduate admitted it could be time for a fresh start. “For me personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” he told journalist Henry Winter.
“If I leave, there will be no hard feelings. You won't get any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person. If I know a situation is already bad, I won't leave.” To make matters worse, I've seen other players leave in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave, I will make a statement and it will be mine.”
