When Lionel Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain, uniting the Argentine with Neymar Junior and Kylian Mbappé, it looked like it could be one of the most terrifying attacks in the history of football. Yet it didn't take long for something to go wrong, and Neymar has provided insight into why.
From early on in Mbappe and Neymar's time together in Paris, the pair were said to have a good relationship. But after the arrival of Messi, things deteriorated, in the words of Neymar, due to the jealousy of the current Real Madrid striker.
“Mbappe wasn't annoying! When Messi came, I think he got a bit jealous… I had my stuff with him, we had a bit of an argument. He was a boy who was key in the beginning, I always called him 'Golden Boy', I was talked to him, played with him, told him he would be one of the best, I always helped, always had conversations with it.”
“When Leo arrived, he got a little jealous. He didn't want to share me with anyone! [laughs] That's how the fighting started, the change in behavior.”
His quotes came from Fabrizio Romano from an interview with Romario, and Neymar went on to suggest that this affected their chances of winning things with PSG.
The Brazilian was recently left out of Al-Hilal's squad for the rest of the season, meaning he will only be able to play for them in the Asian Champions League until the summer when his contract expires. So far, he has made just seven appearances for the Saudi Arabian giants since joining from PSG.
