Real Madrid ready to test Arsenal over defensive star in 2025

Real Madrid are expected to leave the majority of their transfer activity until the summer window.

Los Blancos have traditionally opted for big January moves and that pattern will continue into 2025.

With Valdebebas' injury situation improving, the focus is on securing key objectives, with flexibility until the end of the season.

Defensive duo Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alphonso Davies remain the priority as the pair inch closer to decisions on extensions at Liverpool and Bayern Munich or a move to Madrid.

As well as potential new faces at the back, Arsenal star William Saliba is back on the agenda as a long-term target to strengthen the defensive centre.

According to reports from French outlet Footmercato, Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on his contract situation at the Emirates Stadium, with his current deal due in 2027.

If Saliba chooses not to sign a new contract this summer, Arsenal could reassess their position on the 23-year-old, with his current valuation sitting at around €80 million.
