Bundesliga 2024/2025

2-0

  • Hugo Ekitike (18')
  • Oscar Højlund (90'+2')

Match report

Borussia Dortmund slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday, their third consecutive defeat in the Bundesliga, deepening the crisis at the Ruhr area club.

The result puts further pressure on the already embattled Nuri Sahin, who still enjoyed the backing of club bosses following their midweek defeat to struggling Holstein Kiel.

The visitors started brightly and had the first chance of the match, but Serhou Guirassy's header in the ninth minute bounced off the post.

Nine minutes later they were caught completely off guard when Eintracht broke clear and Hugo Ekitike, who launched the move, fired in to complete the move.

Moments later, things almost got worse for Dortmund when Ansgar Knauff also hit the woodwork for Eintracht.

Dortmund could not find a way back into the match despite prolonged spells of dominance and as they pushed bodies forward in search of a late equalizer they were caught out.

Oscar Hojlund added another goal in stoppage time, his first of the season, to seal Dortmund's third defeat in three league matches this year.

Eintracht consolidated their position in third place in the standings with 36 points, two behind champions Bayer Leverkusen in second place, ahead of their match on Saturday. Dortmund is a distant 10th with 25 points.

Data debrief: Dortmund are undone on the road again

Dortmund's away form this season has been nothing to write home about, and that run continued despite a spirited performance in Frankfurt.

Sahin's side have only taken five points from their nine away games in the Bundesliga this season and have only hit the back of the net four times in those games.

They dominated possession on Friday (67.8%) and completed double the number of passes that Eintracht managed (705 to their opponents' 342), but their failures in front of goal were once again at the forefront.

They hit the target with just three of their 12 shots, with Eintracht proving more clinical. They had 13 shots in total, five of which were on target, as they created 1.87 expected goals (xG) compared to Dortmund's 0.84.
