Eintracht Frankfurt update on Omar Marmoush ahead of Dortmund clash, left out

Eintracht Frankfurt appear to confirm Omar Marmoush is set to join Manchester City ahead of their match with Borussia Dortmund

City have reached a verbal agreement with Frankfurt to sign red-hot striker Marmoush. The Premier League champions had already agreed personal terms with Marmoush and are now looking to seal his £67million transfer.

Marmoush, 25, is the second top scorer in the Bundesliga behind Harry Kane with 15 goals. This season he has scored twenty goals in all competitions.

Mail Sport exclusively revealed City's interest in the Egypt international last month.

City are looking for a striker to lighten the load on Erling Haaland and Pep Guardiola has admitted they made a mistake by not replacing Julian Alvarez, who joined Atletico Madrid this summer.

Now another step has been taken with the striker absent from Frankfurt's squad and set to face Dortmund on Friday evening, with Frankfurt publishing an update on social media.

“Eintracht Frankfurt is currently in discussions with another club about the transfer of Omar Marmoush,” they write. “As a result, he has not been included in the selection today.”

City had originally hoped to land Marmoush for around £40m, but Frankfurt have insisted they want a premium as it is the January window and they need to find a replacement.

His team took on Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Friday evening, with Frankfurt starting the match in third place and Dortmund in tenth.

Although his departure will be a blow to his German club, the transfer fee will be significant and a big help.

Provided all of City's current work gets over the line, this will represent an expenditure of £102.9 million for the club to date, a clear statement of how urgently they want to turn the season around.

Guardiola's side are expected to complete the £33.5m signing of wonderkid Uzbek Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov this week and have reached a £29.4m deal with Palmeiras to sign centre-back Vitor Reis.
