Getafe 1-1 Barcelona: Flick’s side dealt title blow as winless run continues

Barcelona's winless run in LaLiga was extended to four games after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Getafe at the Estadio Coliseum on Saturday.

The result leaves them third in the standings, five points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, with rivals Real Madrid one point behind and in action against Las Palmas on Sunday.

Hansi Flick's side were ahead with just nine minutes on the clock when Pedri's incisive pass was collected by Jules Kounde, who bundled the ball past David Soria.

But the home side leveled when Mauro Arambarri tapped the ball in from close range after Coba da Costa had his effort brilliantly saved by Inaki Pena.

Arambarri almost doubled his tally shortly after the break, but fired his shot straight at Pena, while Lamine Yamal shot wide at the other end moments later.

Christantus Uche then fired an effort high and wide after an error by goalscorer Kounde, with Djene Dakonam also unable to trouble Pena shortly afterwards.

Barcelona had a late penalty wave waved away after Kounde had his shirt ripped off by Uche, but the referee allowed play to continue, with the visitors unable to progress in the closing stages.

Data debrief: Barça's woes continue

After starting the season so strongly, Barcelona have capitulated in their quest for the LaLiga crown, with the Opta Supercomputer giving them just a 10.6% chance of lifting the title this season after their latest defeat.

Barcelona have 39 points after their first twenty games in LaLiga this season. Since the 2004-05 season, they have only scored fewer points at this stage of the season in 2021-2022 (32).

Flick's side have also conceded at least one goal in each of their last nine league games, their worst run in the league since an 11-game run between September and November in 2018 under Ernesto Valverde.
