Barcelona singing section could face club ban for Champions League clash
Barcelona have managed to soften the impact of being away from their hometown Camp Nou this season, making Montjuic feel much more homely, thanks in no small part to the team's improved form and increased attendance. However, they could lose some of that home advantage against Brest in the Champions League due to an ongoing dispute between the fans and the club.
The singing section or Grada d'Animacio is made up of several supporters' groups and Barcelona have informed them that they want fans to pay the €21,000 fines imposed on them for alleged complaints in that part of the stadium. Something that Sport says they have not done and have no intention of doing. They aim to meet with the club to understand what exactly the fines are for, and to start a dialogue on the matter. Barcelona refuse to do this, and if they do not pay the fee before the end of Monday, the Blaugrana will deny their own fans in that section access to the stadium for their Tuesday night match against Brest.
It is certainly a drastic and unusual action, but perhaps a new approach to prevent unwanted behavior from fans. Likewise, it's understandable why the majority of fans in that section would be outraged if they were asked to contribute to a fine they had nothing to do with, and potentially receive a ban. Moreover, as season ticket holders, Barcelona will not lose any money due to their absence on Tuesday.
