One of the music world's most influential figures has thrown his support behind UFC super prospect Payton Talbott ahead of his fight tonight.
Frank Ocean, who has won Grammys for his work and is considered one of the greatest R&B musicians in the world, rarely posts on social media and has no main block posts on Instagram. But he used his stories to wish Talbott luck as he faced Raoni Barcelos at UFC 311.
The bantamweight prospect puts his undefeated record on the line against Barcelos, who has defeated a previous The Ultimate Fighter winner and even faced Umar Nurmagomedov.
Frank Ocean sends support to Payton Talbott
In a rare social media post tonight, R&B icon Frank Ocean shared his support for enigmatic rising UFC star Payton Talbott via Instagram Stories. The Las Vegas native has burst onto the scene with huge knockout wins and is taking a big step forward tonight.
Ocean shared a photo of Talbott appearing to be cooking the couple a meal, and captioned it as such to his nearly 7 million followers. He wrote the simple message, “I have to cook dinner tonight, P,” which caught fire in the MMA community.
Fans were surprised to see that the pair were friends, especially when the message was pushed by some major MMA Twitter accounts. “This is real, holy shit,” one fan wrote.
Payton Talbott is the biggest favorite on the UFC 311 card
Even the last-minute introduction of a fight between number ten Renato Moicano and pound-for-pound number one Islam Makhachev couldn't dampen the buzz surrounding Talbott. All bookmakers have made him an almost irrefutable favorite for tonight's fight.
The 5'10” star is certainly a big prospect, but faces a very tough test in Barcelos.
Barcelos' top-of-the-line victory is his unanimous decision over Said Nurmagomedov, who has since gone 5-1 in the UFC. This, along with Barcelos' performance against Timur Valiev, has put Barcelos in high regard as one of the most underrated unranked fighters in bantamweight.
