Bruno issues rallying cryas Brighton defeat marks the worst start for 131 years

Bruno Fernandes has called on Manchester United's players to be braver and show more faith so they can stop their worst start to the season at home in 131 years.

Despite the Manchester United captain canceling out Yankuba Minteh's opener from the penalty spot, Ruben Amorim's side folded and were beaten 3-1 by the time referee Peter Bankes ended what was a somewhat one-sided match.

Asked whether this slump is indeed the new normal for United, who have not performed this poorly at home since their days known as Newton Heath, Fernandes was resolute.

“That can't be true,” he told Sky Sports.

'I understand the outside perspective. But we can't feel comfortable thinking this is okay. That's not it.

“I'm not here to lose games and be in the position we are in at the moment. But I know there's no one in that locker room and if anyone is, they can't be here.”

It took a late hat-trick from Amad Diallo on Thursday evening to turn around a poor performance against Southampton, but this time no rescue came.

For Brighton defender Lewis Dunk, this was 'comfortable' for the visiting Seagulls and an annual trip that still poses little to no problem for them.

Victory for Brighton on Sunday means United have lost six of their last seven Premier League games against the Seagulls (W1), including all three meetings at Old Trafford in that series.

'It doesn't matter to me. It's another loss for us. It doesn't matter how many times they beat us,” Fernandes added.

'I remember they haven't won a match here in the past. That's not going to change anything.

'The most important thing that will change for us is that we did not get the three points today. Congratulations to them, they played a good game and deservedly won.'

Any suggestion that Amorim could change his style to try and change this team's results was blasted by the man himself in the aftermath of this defeat.

'I'm not going to change the way I see the game. I am very clear about that,” Amorim vowed.

'The players will suffer, I'm sorry, the fans will suffer.

“I have one way of doing things, I know it's going to happen [bring] results. But we have to endure these moments. I think it is very clear to everyone what we are going to do.'
