Antony’s exit signals imminent Man Utd arrival as Ruben Amorim hatches transfer plan

Ruben Amorim has reportedly agreed to Antony's move to Real Betis, provided his departure means Manchester United bring in a replacement.

Antony has struggled with form since moving to Old Trafford in 2022 for around £84m. He is yet to make a Premier League start under Amorim and has attracted interest from a number of clubs across Europe.

However, Spanish side Relevo are reporting that he is set to be loaned out to Betis until the end of the season. The report states that Amorim gave the “final green light” for the move after “requesting reinforcement” before approving the deal.

Betis will pay part of Antony's wages and the LaLiga club are keen for him to join as soon as possible as the winger waits to fly to Spain to undergo his medical treatment.

When asked about Antony's future last month, Amorim suggested his struggles were simply due to a lack of faith. “He needs more confidence. If you remember Antony at Ajax, he lacks a little bit of confidence to go one-on-one, so he will improve,” he said.

“But he works very hard, he tries, he plays more inside than outside, especially in this match (against Tottenham). You have to do that to work very hard and that will help him become a better player.”

However, Amorim has favored the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Amad and Alejandro Garnacho over Antony in his 3-4-3 system. It remains to be seen who United will bring in to replace Antony, but Amorim has made it clear he wants to strengthen his squad if possible.

“If the window is open, we can try to do something, and we will try to do something,” Amorim explained earlier this month. But I think in the coming weeks we will have more time to train and we can improve; that's the only way.

“We have played many matches without training; now we have more room to grow. You can see that the context is worse at the moment because we have suffered many losses, so we have to keep everything under control.”
