Tottenham recall club’s youngest ever debutant from Championship loan as Postecoglou faces mammoth injury crisis

TOTTENHAM have recalled young striker Dane Scarlett from Oxford but are set to loan him out again.

Spurs' first team is agonizingly short of attacking options after Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson joined their huge injury list.

But instead of Scarlett being brought back to bolster the numbers, the 20-year-old has been recalled due to a lack of playing time at Championship side United.

The N17 academy product made just seven league starts for the Geelen and scored four times.

Spurs want to bring him back out during this period to boost his experience.

The north Londoners continue to look for a new striker this season, having only signed goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky so far.

They missed Randal Kolo Muani, who comes to Juventus on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

Boss Ange Postecoglou said after Sunday's defeat to Everton that the club was doing everything it could to add new faces but that nothing was “threatening”.

The Aussie, whose job remains safe despite suffering a 12th league defeat of the season at Goodison Park, added: “The club is well aware of our situation and they are doing their utmost.

“As far as I know there is nothing going on at the moment.

“But you know, I guess between now and the end of the period, hopefully something will happen.”

Spurs were without ten players for the Toffees, including four attacking players.

Solanke will miss the coming weeks with a knee problem, while Johnson will be out for a month with a knock.

Timo Werner is still three weeks away with a hamstring injury – the same problem that has dogged signing Wilson Odobert for most of the season.

Scarlett became Tottenham's youngest ever debutant in 2021 and received praise from then manager Jose Mourinho.

The Special One said: “He is a diamond, a kid with incredible potential.

“He's going to be a fantastic player and I hope everything goes well around him.

“He's a striker, a number nine. I've played him from the wings, similar to Marcus Rashford, and he's very smart.”

Scarlett, now 20, has played for England at five different age levels.

He was previously loaned out to Portsmouth and Ipswich Town.
