Janaury's transfer window is in full swing, but the Premier League hasn't produced too many blockbuster deals yet.
Aston Villa have signed Donyell Malen, while Ipswich signed Jadon Philogene from the Midlands side. Spurs quickly began looking for a new goalkeeper in Antonin Kinsky, while Manchester City began their foray into the market by completing a deal for Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens.
With the clock ticking for the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United to make their moves, it looks like the summer of 2024 saw the biggest deals of the season. Transfers are of course more difficult around the turn of the year, with clubs happy to splash money from a stronger negotiating position.
Mirror Football takes a look at the Premier League's biggest deals from last summer and assesses whether they were a success.
10. Georginio Rutter (£40m)
Games played: 14 (9)
Rating: 6
Rating: The Brighton forward has scored six goals and provided two assists in his debut season for the Seagulss so far this season and has shown flashes of very good form. Rutter started the season well, but experienced a dip in his performance, but has started to find the net again since the start of 2025.
9. Max Kilman (£40 million)
Matches played: 25
Rating: 5
Rating: West Ham spent a significant amount of money to sign the centre-back from Wolves and a difficult season has meant Kilman has struggled to prove his worth. The 27-year-old put in some good performances early in the season but has struggled since then and may need a dominant presence alongside him at the London Stadium.
8. Riccardo Calafiori (£42m)
Games played: 12 (4)
Rating: 5
Rating: The Italian defender has had some big moments for the Gunners so far, including a goal against Manchester City. However, Calafiori's injuries could lead Arsenal to question spending given the evidence from his career at Bologna.
7. Matthijs de Ligt (£42.9m)
Games played: 23 (4)
Rating: 5
Rating: Questions quickly arose about the Dutch defender following his move to Manchester United, with his pace and agility appearing to create some vulnerability in the Old Trafford defense. The former Bayern Munich and Juventus centre-back has shown some improvement in Ruben Amorim's back three and there will be hopes he can produce more performances, such as against Arsenal in the FA Cup.
6. Joao Felix (£45 million)
Games played: 9 (11)
Rating: 3
Rating: It's a huge fee to justify for a player who is mainly limited to appearances from the bench and in the Europa League, despite his seven goals. There are few signs that ex-Atletico Madrid will find a way past Cole Palmer into Chelsea's starting XI, making it a difficult signing to consider a success.
5. Amadou Onana (£50 million)
Games played: 18 (3)
Rating: 7
Rating: Onana quickly became a key figure in Unai Emery's Aston Villa midfield, although an injury sustained while on international duty with Belgium disrupted his progress in December. However, Onana is doing well at Villa Park and may be one of the more successful signings on this list.
4. Manuel Ugarte (£50.7 million)
Games played: 19 (6)
Rating: 4
Rating: The midfielder has shown good quality since moving to Manchester United, but like his team has also suffered a lot of frustration. Ugarte recently impressed alongside Kobbie Mainoo against Arsenal and Liverpool but has failed to translate that into real consistency with Amorim suggesting his star was 'tired' in a difficult outing against Southampton before struggling against Brighton.
In some ways he was expected to be a game changer for United and he doesn't quite fit in as his rating suffers.
3. Pedro Neto (£54 million)
Games played: 16 (8)
Rating: 5
Rating: The former Wolves man has scored three goals and two assists since his move to Stamford Bridge but has not been able to perform to his best under Enzo Maresca. The Chelsea star is pretty much another player stuck in the rotation.
2. Leny Yoro (58.7m)
Games played: 5 (6)
Rating: 5
Assessment: A pre-season injury reduced Yoro's chance to establish himself as an undeniable presence at Manchester United. The 19-year-old was finally able to make his debut in December and has not waited long for opportunities to start under Amorim. However, we will have to wait and see in assessing his move.
1. Dominic Solanke (£65 million)
Games played: 24 (5)
Rating: 7
Rating: The Tottenham signing has 11 goals to his name this season, despite the Lilywhites enduring a difficult season with a plethora of injuries. Spurs are now on the verge of being sidelined due to injury. Spurs will likely miss their main striker, who in addition to scoring goals has also been a presence up front and has benefited from Ange Postecoglou's attack.
