Rashford eyed for Greenwood reunion as fresh transfer option emerges

French giants Marseille are set to offer Marcus Rashford a move away from Manchester United and the chance to reunite with former teammate Mason Greenwood.

Rashford, 27, only has until Monday, February 3 to find an escape route from Old Trafford after revealing last month that he is ready for a 'new challenge'. While the forward would be willing to stay and fight for his place under Ruben Amorim, he is clearly out of favor having missed United's last nine games.

AC Milan were the leaders a week ago, only because their interest in Kyle Walker took priority. His next dream club, Barcelona, are yet to increase their interest as they will have to offload a player from Hansi Flick's squad to welcome Rashford.

Borussia Dortmund and Monaco have both also made inquiries, but it appears Rashford is not keen. Now a new approach is on the table, with Marseille reportedly having contacted United chiefs to explore a possible deal.

The French newspaper L'Equipe reports that Marseille is interested in the sixty-time English international alongside Mathys Tel. Sporting director Medhi Benatia is looking for a new striker, with Elye Wahi replacing Manchester City-bound Omar Marmousch at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Rashford, in what would likely be a move, would see some familiar faces in the south of France, including Greenwood. The 23-year-old joined Roberto De Zerbi in July after a season-long loan at Getafe.

Greenwood was sold for an initial €27.6 million (£23 million) plus a further €4 million (£3.4 million) after last playing for the Red Devils in January 2022. Ligue 1 Player of the Month Award.

His form, twelve goals and three assists in eighteen league games, has lifted Marseille to second place in the table, five points above Lille but nine points behind Paris Saint-Germain. Greenwood's current teammates include Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Neal Maupay, both on loan from Tottenham and Everton respectively.

Rashford is keen to find a club in one of Europe's top five leagues after rejecting three lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia earlier this month. Amorim was asked to provide an update on Rashford's situation following United's terrible 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton.

'It's his choice [not to play]', the Red Devils boss claimed. 'I don't want to focus on this bad moment because in the games we have lost, Rashford is not there. I don't want to blame this moment on Rashford. Rashford is absent at the moment as he is not playing. Whatever happens, I'm not going to release a player who I don't think is the best for the team.”
