Manchester United goalkeeper Patrick Dorgu has admitted he is keen on a move to the Premier League, despite admitting something that could put off Red Devils fans.
Dorgu is a self-confessed Chelsea fan and has revealed: “I've been a Chelsea fan for years”. But he has not ruled out a move to a rival club.
The Athletic reports that the Red Devils are negotiating with Serie A side Lecce for the 20-year-old's services in January. However, United have been warned that Dorgu is unlikely to leave Lecce this winter as the Italian club want to keep him until the end of the season. Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has previously dismissed the idea that he could leave the club before the summer.
Needing to offload before they can bring in new faces to Old Trafford, talks over a potential deal are heating up, although the clubs are yet to shake hands. Last month, Corvino told Gazzetta dello Sport: “A player like him obviously has admirers, and there are plenty of them, even abroad.
“But Dorgu will stay here, and then we will talk about it this summer, because his fate is already decided. His future belongs to him.”
Dorgu, linked to Lecce until 2028, attracted attention last summer – especially Chelsea's – with glowing talk about his future, the Manchester Evening News reports.
In a confession to Danish media Flashscore in April, Dorgu expressed his long-held dream of donning Chelsea Blue. But he insisted his loyalty would not stop him from joining another top team.
“I don't spend much time on it,” Dorgu said of the rumours, adding: “There are always rumors and my agent has been approached, but at the moment I am under contract in Lecce and then we will see what happens. ” .
“I've been a Chelsea fan for years, so obviously it's a dream. That doesn't mean I can't move on to other teams in the Premier League, but even if things don't go well for them, they're my team now .”
Dorgu has been a regular for Lecce in Serie A this season, missing just one match due to suspension. He has scored three goals and provided an assist so far.
The club is currently just above the relegation zone and is 16th in the table. Their next match is a home match against Inter Milan on Sunday, with kick-off at 5pm.
