Ruben Amorim takes out his frustrations on Old Trafford locker room

Manchester United's head coach admitted the current team is “arguably the worst in history” after another defeat to Brighton.

It's fair to say that not everything has gone to plan in the first few months of Ruben Amorim's tenure at Manchester United. Despite a high-profile win over Manchester City, Amorim has now lost seven of his first 15 games in charge.

That record is worse than that of his predecessor Eric ten Hag in the fifteen games before he was fired. Amorim did not shield his players from criticism after last weekend's home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion and is said to have expressed some frustration immediately after the defeat.

The Athletic reports that Amorim hit players in the locker room after the match, damaging one of the wall-mounted televisions. The screen is used for tactical instructions before matches and needs to be repaired before United face Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday.

What did Ruben Amorim say about his Man Utd team?

For much of his time in the role, Amorim has tried to be a calming presence at Manchester United. He has an ease with the press that always eluded Ten Hag and he communicates more clearly in public.

He has repeatedly insisted that it will take some time for his ideas to yield results, but the struggles against Southampton and Brighton in recent games appear to have sparked a more succinct response from the head coach. After the match against Brighton, Amorim called on his players to do more, describing this version of Manchester United as “possibly the worst in history”.

“I knew it would be difficult to come up with a completely new idea at that time, but when you lose games and don't win three games in a row, it becomes very difficult,” Amorim continued. “So that's why I say we will suffer, because I will continue to do the same thing.

“Helping my players means giving them the tools to play this way, but without training it is very difficult. You can feel it at the end of the match, everyone changed positions and I won't see that again. We can lose, but we have to keep our position.”
