Liverpool transfer news: January target ‘agrees deal’ as Reds enter talks over loan

Time is running out in the January transfer window for Liverpool to do business.

Arne Slot has only seen Federico Chiesa arrive at Anfield since taking charge of the club, but he is still guiding the Reds to the top of the Premier League. The Reds also continue to compete for the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Champions League.

Goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga left the club for Fluminense this month, while Calvin Ramsay went on loan to Kilmarnock after his time at Wigan came to an end. Kaide Gordon also saw his time at Norwich come to an end, and Rhys Williams extended his spell at Morecambe until the end of the season.

It remains to be seen whether any deals will be made that will influence the first-team selection. Mirror Football takes a look at the latest transfer news and rumors surrounding Anfield.

Loan conversations

Liverpool are open to facilitating a loan move for young forward Jayden Danns this month. The Reds striker came off the bench to score against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup and is now being eyed for a move.

Championship Stoke City are said to have started talks to secure a deal for the 19-year-old. Lewis Koumas is already on loan to Liverpool's Potters and has developed well.

There is likely to be more interest in Danns, but Stoke have already seen Tom Cannon recalled by Leicester City this month to pique their desire. The Anfield side are likely to wait until next week to make their decision, it is said.

Star agrees to deal

Rayan Cherki has agreed a deal with Lyon to facilitate his departure. The 21-year-old has found common ground with the French side, who will now allow him to leave if a €22 million bid is made, according to reports.

Cherki has been a leading player for the side in recent seasons, but Lyon's financial problems have left them in a position where they have to raise money. If they fail to clear their debts, they could be relegated from Ligue 1.

The report claims Liverpool are willing to pay such a fee, with interest from the Reds increasing in recent weeks. Finally, Cherki would see it as an option to put 'dynamism and creativity' aside.

Konate contract

Ibrahima Konate has been offered a new contract but has not yet put pen to paper to extend his stay at Liverpool. The French centre-back was a key player for the Reds under Slot and his contract expires in 2026.

When asked if a new deal was on the table, Konate said: “Yes.” But when the 25-year-old was asked if he was about to sign, he replied: “This is a different conversation.”

“Who talked about that a few months ago?” he also said. “The club hasn't said anything, I haven't said anything. It's one person who said that.

“I wasn't ready for it yet, I didn't know when he said that. But after that I spoke to the club. I think I'm really focused on what's happening now. We'll see what will happen.”
