Wrexham footballer James McClean suffered cuts and bruises after crashing his Audi on Wednesday morning.
The Irishman went off-road near Wrexham Golf Club and police were quickly on the scene, with eyewitnesses reporting significant damage to the footballer's black Audi.
Fog and ice created treacherous conditions in North Wales and a source close to the scene of the accident described 'lots of tire tracks' at the roundabout towards Wrexham.
“Wrexham AFC can confirm that a first-team player was involved in a car accident on the way to training this morning,” a club statement said.
'It was a one-off car accident with no other vehicles involved and the relevant local authorities responded quickly to the scene.
'The player reported to the Club this morning and will undergo further medical checks as a precaution.'
It comes in a week when McClean was in the news after calling the English town of Shrewsbury a 'cesspool of inbreeding'.
North Wales Police have been contacted for comment.
