Arne Slot has a big decision to make about the future of one of Liverpool's rising young stars.
Jayden Danns has emerged as an exciting talent at Anfield and the Reds manager is currently considering whether to let the 19-year-old leave in January to further his development. According to The Athletic, Championship clubs Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End are all keen to acquire the services of the emerging striker.
Hollywood-owned Wrexham were also previously said to be interested but a move to League One is thought to be unlikely. Slot said last week that he would consider several factors before approving a loan exit, including a recent injury to Diogo Jota.
He said: “You take a lot of things into account when you want to loan a player out and this could be one of them, but there are other factors you take into account too. Is it good for a player to get some game time? yes or no, do we think we still need it?”
Danns missed much of the first half of the season through injury but came off the bench to score in Liverpool's 4-0 FA Cup third round win over Accrington Stanley earlier this month. One person who has already made his feelings about the striker clear is Slot's predecessor, Jurgen Klopp.
Danns made his breakthrough under the German last season and played a starring role in the League Cup final victory over Chelsea. Klopp praised the youngster after his impressive performance, describing him as “very special” and “absolutely insane”.
At his post-match press conference he said: “Jayden Danns only recently joined us for first-team training. I loved him from the first second; very special. And he comes today, okay, he played in the last match, but he can score two goals in a Carabao Cup final. It's absolutely insane.”
Klopp then compared Danns to darts sensation Luke Littler after he scored two goals from the bench in a win over Southampton last February. He said: “It's a bit like the new darts sensation, it's fine for tonight. Let the boys be in the corner tomorrow.”
“Everyone who is with us, we have to have our moments, they will have more moments than we expect. Exceptional talents, it is of course not normal for an 18 year old boy to be as calm as you want.
“The second goal, calm if you like, he saw when Conor (Bradley) shot that the goalkeeper couldn't handle it. Don't forget it when the transfer window opens, (don't ask for) twelve signings!”
Whether a loan move from Anfield will be sanctioned for Danns remains to be seen, but his services are in high demand. With testimonials like that of his former manager behind him, it's not hard to see why.
