Man Utd in discussions with Napoli over a deal of around £50m for Garnacho

Talks are underway between Manchester United and Napoli over a deal worth around £50 million, plus add-ons, for Alejandro Garnacho.

Mail Sport revealed this week that the Serie A club were expected to take a renewed approach to the Argentine winger, who has been out of favor at Old Trafford under new boss Ruben Amorim.

Napoli coach Antonio Conte informed the Argentine and his representatives about a transfer last week.

Chelsea, who Mail Sport revealed they want to sign Kobbie Mainoo, are in talks over their own bid for the winger. Garnacho's agents Carlos Cambeiro and Quique de Lucas, a former Chelsea player, were at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening.

Napoli are in desperate need of a left winger after selling Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to PSG earlier this month for £59m.

Mail Sport reported last week that Man United valued Garnacho at £65 million. Further talks between the Italian club and the Red Devils are planned in Milan on Wednesday.

United's official line is that Garnacho is a valuable team member and is not actively looking to sell, but their resolve could be tested if Napoli or Chelsea up the ante.

Rashford, Garnacho and Antony all trained ahead of United's match against Rangers on Wednesday morning.

In April 2023, Garnacho signed a new five-year contract with the Red Devils, but reportedly became frustrated with his place in the team under Amorim.

The Argentina international lost his starting place ahead of the Manchester derby last month and has been on the fringes ever since.

Garnacho has not registered a goal contribution since Amorim's arrival, scoring just three goals and one assist in the Premier League all season.

The youngster could join a Serie A side in the hunt for their second top-flight title in three years. Under Conte, Napoli have returned to the top of the league and lead defending champions Inter Milan by three points just after the half.

Notable former Manchester United players in the squad include Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay.
