Vinicius Jr’s Real Madrid ban extended amid Saudi interest

A yellow card for Vini Jr. in the Champions League means he will miss the last match of the opening phase of the competition.

Bad news for Vinicius and Real Madrid. The Brazilian attacker was shown a yellow card in the match against Salzburg for what the Swedish referee Nyberg considered a simulation.

This card marks his third in the Champions League, meaning he will miss the final group match against Brest.

The incident took place when Vinicius entered the Austrian team's penalty area. Bidstrup blocked his advance and Vinicius went down, appealing for a penalty.

When will Vinicius Jr return from his suspension?

The referee ruled it a dive and gave him a yellow card. This is Vinicius' third yellow card in the competition, following previous bookings against Milan, for gesturing towards the referee, and against Dortmund, also for simulation.

This suspension comes at a bad time, as Vinicius is already serving a ban in the domestic league due to an incident with Dimitrievski, which resulted in a two-match ban (he served the first against Las Palmas).

As a result, he will miss the next two matches: Real Valladolid in LaLiga and Brest in the Champions League. He will not be available again for the league match against Espanyol until February 1.

The name of Vinicius Jr. has been in the media spotlight in both Spain and the Middle East amid increased Saudi interest in the player, who appear keen to bring him into the league from the 15-time European champions.
