Jack Grealish admitted he cannot explain Manchester City's collapse this season after PSG came from behind to win 4-2 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Man City looked on course for a crucial win in the league stage when half-time substitute Grealish scored with his first touch, followed by Erling Haaland to double the lead from close range in the 53rd minute.
The 2023 winners were stunned by a thrilling comeback from PSG, with Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola scoring four minutes apart to draw the hosts level on the hour.
PSG completed the comeback through Joao Neves' header in the 78th minute, before Goncalo Ramos grabbed the fourth in stoppage time.
Grealish admitted the result followed a trend of Man City failing to hold winning positions on several occasions this season.
The winger wondered whether confidence had been a factor as Man City had comfortably maintained their lead in recent seasons.
“I don't know, usually we're so good in these moments,” Grealish told TNT Sports.
'It has happened too often this season, we are one or two goals ahead, even three against Feyenoord, and we have not controlled and finished the game.
'It's strange, because in other seasons we have been so good at these moments. I don't know if it's a matter of trust.
'Before Christmas we were not at the level we know we can be. It's up to us to try to change it and win the game next week.'
'I don't know if it's a matter of trust.
'We have so many players on the pitch who are so good in possession. We haven't done it lately, it's our fault. Thanks to Paris, they were very energetic.
“They were a lot better than I thought, not in a bad way, they were a top team and deserved to win.”
The defeat means Man City falls out of the Champions League play-off places after collecting just eight points from seven games.
Pep Guardiola's team is two points behind four teams – including PSG – that occupy the last play-off positions.
The Premier League champions close the competition phase against Club Brugge and must beat the Belgian team to stay in the competition.
“We've had games like this in recent seasons, high-pressure games, so we'll need that,” Grealish said.
'Bruges has achieved good results in the Champions League this year. It's up to us: we are very good at home, prepare for Chelsea this weekend and then all eyes will be on that.
