Kompany rues Bayern’s missed chances in heavy Feyenoord loss

Vincent Kompany was left frustrated by Bayern Munich's profligacy after the shock 3-0 defeat to Feyenoord in the Champions League.

Bayern had 30 shots and scored 2.4 expected goals on Wednesday, but still fell to a heavy defeat in Rotterdam.

Since Opta started recording such data (from 2003 to 2004), only Sporting Braga against CFR Cluj in September 2012 (38) and Lyon against Rangers in October 2007 (32) have had more attempts in a Champions League match without scoring .

The defeat leaves them 15th in the 36-team standings, meaning they are very likely to face a last 16 qualifying play-off.

And Kompany, whose team hit the post through Leroy Sane in the second half and was thwarted several times by Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, was not impressed by his team's finishing.

What a night…

“I have to be honest: Feyenoord deserved their victory. They fought hard and fled,” Kompany told reporters.

“We had a lot of chances. I felt like we could have scored one, two or more goals. Feyenoord made good use of their moments.

“Individually and collectively it wasn't enough on our part today.

“We did everything we could, we gave everything, but the performance wasn't just good enough. We had moments where we could have scored, but we didn't get the most out of it.”
