Marcus Rashford was once again left out by Ruben Amorim as Manchester United took on Rangers.
But the United striker appeared to be at Old Trafford to watch the Europa League match. Rashford, who revealed his desire to leave the club last month, sent a message of support to his teammates as the match got underway.
“Come on guys,” he posted on his Instagram Story, accompanied by a photo of the field from the stands of Theater of Dreams. The youth product has not featured for United since December 12 and has only been included in one squad since the match against Viktoria Plzen.
The goal-oriented striker was linked with Barcelona, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund, in addition to Ligue 1 clubs, during the January transfer window. However, the 27-year-old could still remain at United as a deal proves difficult. complete with just over a week to go.
Rashford's representatives met with a number of clubs, including Barcelona, who are believed to be the player's preferred transfer options. The player's £350,000-a-week salary has proven unaffordable so far, and it remains to be seen whether United decide to foot part of the bill to offload Rashford.
Meanwhile, another star who could soon leave Old Trafford was in the starting line-up against the Gers. Chelsea are considering a move for Argentina international Alejandro Garnacho.
The twenty-year-old has already had to deal with a rejected offer from Napoli. It could still be the Blues who benefit from United being willing to sell the winger.
Napoli are looking for a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this month after he was sold to Paris Saint-Germain. United's asking price of £70 million for Garnacho has proven to be a sticking point for the Italians, but that means the Red Devils' Premier League rivals may have no competition to sign him.
Asked about interest in Garnacho ahead of Rangers' visit south of the border, Amorim quickly put an end to talk about the future of his attack. At least for now.
“Let's concentrate on the match,” he said. “I don't want to talk about that, especially not right before a match.”
It has been reported that United will be firm on their asking price for the player and will not accept offers involving players they do not want to go in the opposite direction.
