Arsenal star opens door to summer exit as talks take place for transfer

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is leaving the door open on a possible move to Brazil.

The Italy international is in the final six months of his contract with the Gunners and has yet to agree new terms with the club. Jorginho has admitted that a move to the South American country where he was born could be on the cards in the future, amid interest from the likes of Palmeiras.

Sport Witness reports that talks have started with Jorginho in a bid to complete a move to Brazil, but Arsenal are currently standing in his way. Mikel Arteta's side want the former Chelsea ace to extend his contract for another year, but Jorginho's wage demands would also be difficult for Palmeiras.

However, the club can still be encouraged by Jorginho's final words. “No, it is a possibility, yes, in the future it is a possibility,” he said during a move to Brazil.

“So this door is of course also open. Keep all doors open and decide calmly what you will do in the future.”

The ex-Napoli star has claimed that his focus at the moment is simply on the next game rather than his future. However, it is claimed that Jorginho's representatives held 'exploratory talks' with Palmeiras over a possible move.

“My contract runs until June and my goal now is to think about the next match, which is in three days. There's not much to think about, you know?” said Jorginho.

“Things happen very quickly in football, things can happen overnight, but my thoughts are on the next game. Football is a box full of surprises, as we all know, but my goal is to think about the next match. I don't even look because it happens all the time. Every window that opens is always crazy, with a lot of information, a lot of things, a lot of talk.

“But if you stop thinking about all the talk you're always having, you end up wasting a lot of energy and it ultimately affects your work where you are. So my goal is, like I said before, to focus on where I am, which is here today, so that's it.

Jorginho signed a short-term contract extension in May after joining North London on an 18-month contract in January 2023. The 33-year-old is once again in the latter part of the season, but his contract is set to expire.
