Dominic Solanke is excluded for “six weeks” because his knee injury is worse than initially feared.
The English striker, 27, twisted the ball when he made a shot on his own on Saturday during the training.
Ange Postecoglou initially expected the blow to exclude the attacker “a few weeks”, but that has now been upgraded to a month and a half.
It places Solanke in a race against the clock to be fit for the Carabao Cup final on March 16, in which Tottenham will participate if they can compete against the powerful Liverpool of Arne Slot.
He will certainly miss the second stage of their semi-final in Anfield on 6 February, in which the Spurs take a 1-0 lead thanks to the goal of Lucas Bergvall that Solanke made in the first draw.
Postecoglou said: “As far as stupid, the information is now that we look around six weeks. No operation.
“Maybe we can get him back a little earlier, just see how he develops. But at this stage it says about six weeks. “
Six weeks from the moment the injury was sustained, would cost him until 1 March.
In that time frame, the striker would miss at least eight matches.
This includes Premier League matches against Leicester, Brentford, Manchester United, Ipswich and Manchester City.
The semi-final of the Carabao Cup against Liverpool, a fourth round of the FA Cup in Aston Villa and next week's Europa League match will also take place during that period-plus both play-offs as the Spurs on one Or another way in the top eight of the European ranking.
Solanke was the most expensive acquisition in the Premier League this summer, after he came across £ 65 million from Bournemouth.
The club record purchase has yielded 11 goals in 29 performances, resulting in a recall for England with his diligent performances.
Solanke was one of the fourteen players who were missing for Spurs due to an injury or exclusion in the 3-2 victory over Hoffenheim in the Europa League.
It brought the North London people in fourth place, one point ahead of United in ninth place.
A Son Heung-min two-hull and an early goal from James Maddison did things, after which the hosts scored via Anton Stach and substitute David Mokwa.
Baas Postecoglou added: “I can't say enough about the players who helped us through it. Hopefully they will get some help if a number of players come back.
“We are in a very good position in Europe. Go to the knockout rounds at home and out, get our players back and we will support ourselves against everyone.
“The fact that these guys brought us into this position – Madders and all players who helped us through it – is an honor for them.”
