Ralf Rangnick’s verdict on Benjamin Sesko speaks volumes amid Arsenal transfer talks

Benjamin Sesko is again at the top of Arsenal's transferlang list, but if things had walked differently, he could have come true for Manchester United.

That is because the Slovenian striker was one of the players who was recommended by Ralf Rangnick to the club during the fatal period of the former interim manager at Old Trafford.

Rangnick, who has since led the Austrian national team, stated that United needed an 'open heart surgery' before he was transferred in 2022. And because a lot of work still had to be done when renovating a besieged team, Sesko was one of the names that according to Rangnick would be a no-brainer for the club to strive.

Although he did not mention Sesko at the time, he outlined that the players he had recommended, regardless of circumstances, would appeal to an elite club like United.

He explained: “There may be a few players – and I have already appointed those players on the board – who are independent of the formation, of the football style and independent of a new manager who could be interesting for a club like United . “

Unfortunately United did not follow the Rangnick recommendation and Sesko ended up at RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 for £ 55 million, although the deal was announced twelve months earlier.

And the 21-year-old is now firmly in sight of Arsenal, which would like to bring him to the Emirates this month if a deal can be closed with his club.

Sesko was in good shape for Leipzig this season and scored fourteen goals in 26 games. It was expected that he would be approached by Arsenal in the summer, after which the striker would sign a new contract with the Bundesliga.

Mirror Football outlined on Wednesday that Arsenal is willing to spend a lot of money this month if they think they can bring in a top objective. And with a new number 9 on the agenda, Sesko would certainly fit the ball if Leipzig is willing to play with the ball.

Earlier this week Mikel Arteta confirmed that he was constantly in contact with the Arsenal hierarchy with regard to the window and said: “We naturally have constant contact, we understand the situation and how the team is evolving. It is clear that some of the big news that we had unfortunately was not so positive. What we think, they have been super supportive and they will stay that way. “
