Bayern Munich seems ready to realize what seemed virtually impossible six months ago, after it had agreed the conditions for a new contract with left back Alphonso Davies. Real Madrid also had close ties with the Canadian star and agreed orally agreements with him, but their agreement ultimately meant little.
According to Marca, the germs of the failed move to Real Madrid were laid in the summer. After reaching an agreement with Davies in February last year, when Bayern Munich came to the negotiating table to offer him a new contract, the Bavarian teams began to suspect that he was talking to another club.
But in the summer Bayern Davies tried to sell 55 to 60 million euros, so as not to lose him for free. Real Madrid, who saw that his performance had deteriorated and that Ferland Mendy was performing well, decided to wait a year. They tried not to close a deal in the summer, hoping to save herself a big transfer fee.
It was on this point that Davies reportedly started to doubt a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, because he felt that he was drying by Los Blancos. With a switch to Real Madrid in prospect, Davies had to play in an uncomfortable situation in the last year of his contract. By the summer, Davies already showed a more open willingness to listen to Bayern offers. Real Madrid was aware of this, but decided not to take any further steps and waited until January to contract Davies for free under the same agreed conditions, after which he could sign a provisional contract.
Recent reports say that Real Madrid is satisfied with their transfer strategy and accepts that cases like these, in which they may miss Davies, are part of that. But after they have missed Leny Yoro and the Canadian, they already feel the impact of missing, now a new injury crisis is affecting the central defender and the performance of Mendy is deteriorating this season.
