Vini to prosecute Barce fans for racial abuse; fresh incident at Atletico Madrid

If there has been one scallop in recent years that has destroyed Spanish football, this is the ghost of racism, which shows few signs of going somewhere. Although he was not involved in the Metropolitano on Wednesday evening, a video seems to show a Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior who suffers another reprehensible incident.

A video of 'Agent Libre' provided by Cadena Cope, seems to show Atletico Madrid fans during their collision with Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday evening that 'Vinicius Chimpanzee' sang. The images still have to be verified and it has not been tackled by Club or UEFA.

This news comes after Vinicius Junior appeared in court on Thursday via Conference Call and confirmed that he would insist on two Barcelona fans on racial abuse. The incident took place in 2023 during a Clasico collision in Montjuic, where the fans were quickly identified and cast out of the stadium.

In addition to the two fans being prosecuted in the Criminal Court, a third minor child will also be investigated for racial abuse, but a different punishment will be confronted, as noted by Cadena Ser.

In the course of a number of incidents, various prohibitions from stadiums and fines were distributed, with the fine generally approximately € 3-4K. However, three fans of Valencia were found guilty of racial abuse last year and sentenced to eight months in prison for abusing Vinicius in Mestalla.

In view of the frequency and continuation of these incidents, however, the question raises whether heavier penalties should be implemented. La Liga has been pronounced in asking for more powers to punish racial abuse, but so far they have not received. It is not yet exactly clear what they could do to punish people who go beyond higher fines, because the ultimate prosecution of the abuse amounts to the judicial system.
