Arsenal are making progress on a deal for Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan, but a move is far from certain.
The Gunners identified the 18-year-old as a potential signing earlier this month after monitoring his development. A product of the Rosenborg academy, Nypan has made a name for himself in the Norwegian side and has attracted a lot of interest.
Both Manchester United and Manchester City have become interested in him, although it appears the Red Devils are now out of the race. And Arsenal will look to take advantage of that fact with their own move for the youngster.
According to The Athletic, work to secure Nypan's services is ongoing and talks between the clubs and his representatives are reportedly making 'progress'. It is suggested that although the youngster would be signed as one for the future, he would immediately join the Arsenal first team.
Despite this, a final decision on his future has yet to be made and the race for his services remains open. The Norwegian top class is currently at a standstill, this month is intended for a move.
Nypan has already spoken out about his future, claiming a move to Old Trafford is a target. But he has not allowed himself to be embroiled in speculation.
Last year he said on a Norwegian podcast: “It would obviously be a dream come true to play for Manchester United. I am aware that United have shown some interest. But I am adamant that I don't want to open. ” I still want to concentrate on Rosenborg and not think too far ahead.”
Nypan is one of the most promising young players in Scandinavia. He became Rosenborg's youngest ever player to score in a league match when he found the net at just 16 years and 145 days old.
Away from Nypan, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has already made a public appeal to club chiefs that his attacking options need to be strengthened. Earlier this month he said: “My opinion is clear: we have lost two very important players in Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, so we are missing goals, we are missing people, we are missing options in the front line, that's clear.”
“If we can find the right player, that's what we are actively looking at. Which player? No. Someone who makes us better and has an impact on the team. We need some help, we are already very short, but the team We have to do what is right for the club.”
