Barcelona have been busy with contract extensions in recent weeks and more announcements from the club will be coming soon. Ronald Araujo put pen to paper on a new five-year contract a few days ago, and in the past 24 hours the young left back Gerard Martin also signed until 2028.
The next player whose future will be determined is Pedri. The 22-year-old's representatives have held talks with Barcelona in recent months and it was recently reported that an agreement had been reached.
According to Marca, Pedri will sign his new contract “in the coming days”. The idea is that his contract will be announced next week, and it is expected that he will extend his stay with the Catalan giants until 2030.
Once Pedri's future is settled, Barcelona will look to strike a deal with his midfield partner Gavi. The report states that a deal with the 19-year-old is close to being finalized, and that he should also be able to sign on the dotted line in the coming weeks to extend his stay.
Both Pedri and Gavi (as well as Araujo's old contract) are under contract until 2026, so Barcelona are keen to ensure discussions don't drag on until the summer, after which there would be some danger to their future. However, it seems that in both cases things should be finalized sooner rather than later, which is very good news for Barcelona.
Pedri has been in spectacular form in recent weeks and it is the best he has ever looked since injuries have plagued him regularly in 2021. Gavi is also returning to his best after an eleven-month absence caused by an ACL tear. and it is clear that both players will be crucial for Flick, both now and in the future.
