Hansi Flick confirms Barcelona superstar could be rested against Valencia

Barcelona will be hoping to put an end to their dismal La Liga form, especially at the Estadi Olimpic, when they play Valencia on Sunday evening. The Catalans have won just once in their last eight league matches and this form has seen them drop out of the title race with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

As such, it is imperative that Barcelona carry their 2025 form in all competitions, which continued with an outrageous win over Benfica, into La Liga. Hansi Flick has told the media during his press conference (via MD) that his side must approach the match with a winning mentality.

“We are well prepared against a more stable opponent in defense. It will be a demanding match for us. It won't be easy.

“For me it is very important to win every match. You have to take the field this way and approach every game with this mentality. And you have to manage the breaks, but we'll see. We have to win the games at home, also in front of the fans.”

Flick also confirmed he could make changes against Valencia. He will have to make do without the services of Dani Olmo, but nevertheless there can be peace for Pedri, about whom the German manager spoke highly.

“At the moment he is playing very well, and at 100%. I have already noted that we have changed the philosophy regarding Pedri. He will continue to play because he is doing better. He may not be there from the start, because we need new legs to face Valencia. Changes are planned within the team.”

There is no doubt that Barcelona would be significantly weaker if Pedri did not start against Valencia, and against a side rejuvenated under new manager Carlos Corberan it would be a very risky decision for Flick. However, club officials will also take into account any injury problems the 22-year-old could suffer, which would be a disaster.
