Manchester United is said to be considering signing Alvaro Fernandez of Benfica again, while Ruben Amorim wants to strengthen his team.
United is looking for a left back in the January transfer window and are in conversation with Lecce about a deal for Patrick Dorgu. United, however, has seen an offer that has been rejected for Dorgu, where Lecce focuses the player at around € 40 million (£ 32 million).
And ESPN now reports that Fernandez is being viewed as a potential alternative to Dorgu. Fernandez spent four years at United, but left the club without making his debut after Benfica made his loan permanent last summer.
The States United report has an option that Fernandez signs again for € 18 million (£ 15 million) that is valid until January 2026 and they are willing to activate it if a deal cannot be agreed for Dorgu. The Red Devils have greater flexibility on the transfer market after they have cleared money by sending Antony on loan to Real Betis.
Betis pays a large part of the wages of Antony as part of the deal and United can now result in reinforcements. And Fernandez could become the first official signing of Amorim because of his drill-back clause.
Benfica -icon Alvaro Magalhaes, who won 10 big trophies during his time in the club between 1981 and 1990, admitted in November that he was worried about United would benefit from the clause.
'I'm afraid Ruben Amorim will take him [Fernandez] To Manchester United, “said Alvaro.” It seems to me that he has the quality to be one of their first options, and looking at their team, I believe with the new coaching staff, he could again become an option because the new coach knows him very well from what he Benfica saw.
“When he made his debut in the competition, I saw a brilliant left back in him. The way he positioned himself, how he touched the ball. For many, there are just disappearing. I feel that many people have been a long time today it has been it Undermining a powerful athlete with potential for high performance.
“At Benfica, only the best should play, and he is undoubtedly the best. He was injured in Benfica, but luckily he never gave up. That ability to respond to adversity seems to be his strength.
“Great players only succeed if they are mentally very strong, and that seems to be the case. If someone is weak, they can't play for Benfica, just like they can't play for Real Madrid, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, or PSG . “
