Ruben Amorim offers worrying Man Utd transfer update with ‘mistakes’ claim

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has admitted the club will be “careful” in the January transfer window, admitting they cannot afford to make the same “mistakes”.

United have not made any new signings so far this month, although they have loaned Antony to Real Betis. Amorim wants to strengthen his squad, but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to bring in reinforcements.

When asked about United's plans for the final week of the transfer window following their 1-0 win over Fulham, Amorim told TNT Sports: “We have to be careful. The rules here and you know we have to follow the rules, We have made mistakes in the past and we cannot do that again.

“We are focused on improving the team, but let's see. Let's focus on the players we have and the next game.” And during his post-match press conference, Amorim took a brutal swipe at Marcus Rashford, with the forward once again left out of the squad for the match.

Rashford is expected to leave United before the window closes and when asked about the 27-year-old's future, Amorim said: “We've missed a little bit of pace to change the game and move some pieces.

'But I prefer it this way. I would say so [goalkeeper coach Jorge] Crucially for this I put the player who does not give the maximum every day, so I am not going to change in that department. It's always the same reason.

“The reason is the training. The way I see what a footballer should do in training, in life, every day. If things don't change, I won't change. The same situation for every player, if you do the maximum If you do the right things, we can use every player.”

Amorim also admitted he is unsure whether Alejandro Garnacho will remain at the club amid interest from Napoli and Chelsea, despite the winger having started United's last two games.

“No one knows,” Amorim added. “Anything can happen, but with Garna he improves in every part of the game, the way he recovered, the understanding of the game, the way he defends.

“I'm trying to find the best position for him. Today he played more open and not so much inside. We need guys one-on-one, but I don't know what will happen until the end of the period.”
