Atletico Madrid pursuing midfielder in final week of transfer window

It seemed as if it would be a quiet transfer window for Atletico Madrid, but Colchoneros can see director of Football Carlos Bucero in Solo Action in the last week of the January market. He had previously shared transfer decisions with sports director Andrea Berta, but after the Italian had left at the beginning of January, Bucero is now in the only accusation of that department.

According to Marca, Bucero is actively looking for an output for the French midfielder Thomas Lemar. The former Monaco man has been suitable again for more than a month, but still has to see the playing time in La Liga or the Champions League outside a replacement cameee against real betis. His high salary and lack of action, however, are major obstacles to find Lemar a new home, with a deal still until 2027.

On the other hand, Bucero will also look for a natural 'number 5' in the last week of the window. Bucero wants to give Diego Simeone someone who can direct things at the foot of midfield, after failed attempts to bring in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Marco Verratti and Sofyan Amrabat in recent years. Wonderkid Arthur Vermeren arrived last January, but was not to Simeone's Taste and has since been sold to RB Leipzig.

Although Conor Gallagher also arrived in the summer, Simeone does not see him as a midfielder and he prefers him to the field. Previous reports have noted that Porto -midfielder Alan Varela is one of the preferred options of Simeone for the position. Los Colchoneros was linked to Samu Costa, Luis Milla and Morten Hjulman too, but those were all goals that Berta wanted to go instead of Bucero. Currently it is a role that is often inhabited by Pablo Barrios, with captain Koke Resurreccion gets and incidental starts.
