Barcelona one of three teams Erling Haaland can leave Manchester City for

Earlier this month, Manchester City managed to get star striker Erling Haaland to commit his future to the club on a 9.5-year contract. The deal will in theory keep the Norwegian there for the best years of his career, until 2034, but according to reports from Spain, Haaland still retains a large degree of control over his future.

Previous reports claimed that Haaland will get to choose when he leaves the Etihad for Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain, and Marca's latest update is that Barcelona have also been included in the list of teams Haaland could join. Without a release clause in the contract itself, it is not yet clear what the mechanism for that consent is, also known as 'the fine print'.

In addition to the certainty of the new deal, Haaland will also receive a significant pay increase. The 24-year-old is already the highest-paid player in Manchester City's squad and will earn a net €40 million per year. For context, reports in the Spanish capital put Kylian Mbappé's wages at €15 million per year, albeit without a hefty signing bonus.

In addition to the pay increase, Haaland will also receive all his image rights. This was also mentioned as a major issue for Mbappé and is also worth millions every year, as well as the ability to control where and how Haaland appears in promotional content.

A possible move to Spain still seems far away if it does eventually happen. Although Haaland is still seen as a dream signing for both Barcelona and Real Madrid, it will be some time before the Catalans can afford such a deal. The same goes for Real Madrid: one of their star strikers would probably have to leave, and for good money, before they would consider signing the imposing number nine.
