After months without progress in his contract situation, there is reportedly a tangible shift in the position of Frenkie de Jong about a new Barcelona contract. The previous offer would have gone without reaction from the Dutchman, but now his contract situation will force the two to reach a conclusion about his future. De Jong has 18 months left from his current contract, but with Barcelona, making it a policy now to not leave any of their players in the last year of their deal, they will try to sell De Jong if they cannot agree With a new deal.
De Jong has always maintained that he wants to stay in Barcelona, but now it seems willing to stay and feel positive about the future at the club, with his ankle problems behind him. The news was received with a mix of caution and satisfaction by the club. They were aimed at a sale in the summer, but this could change the situation.
A heavy negotiation seems to be on the road. Barcelona will not want to offer the Dutch midfielder a large deal, with Marc Casado, Pedri, Gavi and Dani Olmo who all surpass him this summer.
