Barca suffer injury setback in backline with potential transfer implications

Barcelona has sustained injury with defender Andreas Christensen, who will be excluded in the coming three weeks. The Danish defender has has to play since the second game of the season due to a tendon problem from Achilles, but will now be back in the recovery process.

Christensen has been suitable for a few weeks now, but the middle behind still had to be returned by manager Hansi Flick. During their training session prior to their latest Champions League group phase collision with Atalanta, Christensen sustained a new injury that the club confirmed to confirm a three-week recovery period.

In addition to the Atalanta game, Christensen will be absent for League collisions with Alaves (H), Sevilla (A) and Rayo Vallecano (H), as well as their Copa del Rey Quarterfinal in Mestalla with Valencia next week. Since he has been absent for a large part of the season, Hansi Flick will undoubtedly continue to share minutes between Ronald Araujo, Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia, because they are also waiting for the return of Inigo Martinez van Litsel.

It can also affect Barcelona in the last six days of the transfer market. Christensen was one of the two players, next to Ansu Fati, who could have left in the last phases of the transfer market, looking for more minutes. So far, Fati has resisted all attempts to move him further, and MD says that Christensen would take a step earlier until the end of the season as a result. His injury, however, seems to be at least an exit unlikely, and that will have a domino effect on Barcelona's ability to strengthen in the transfer market.

Barcelona has been associated with Marcus Rashford of Manchester United and Jeremy Doku from Manchester City in loan agreements until the end of the season, but without an exit they will not have had enough room in their salary limit.
