‘It was typical Kane’, says Kompany after Bayern star smashes Bundesliga record
Vincent Kompany joked it was 'typical Harry Kane' after the England captain scored his 50th Bundesliga goal in Bayern Munich's 3-0 win over Augsburg.
Kane scored all of Bayern's goals in Friday's victory as Kompany's side went, at least temporarily, eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
In the process, Kane scored his 50th goal in the competition and reached the milestone in just 43 appearances, breaking the previous record of 50 set by Erling Haaland during his time at Borussia Dortmund.
Two of Kane's goals came from the penalty spot before he completed his hat-trick in the 95th minute with a deft header after superbly controlling Leon Goretzka's lobbed pass.
“It was typical Harry Kane,” said Kompany. “He had situations in the first half where maybe he could have done better.
“But a player like him can score at any time. He then scored three.”
Joshua Kimmich praised Kane's composure from the penalty spot.
“I've never seen him miss one,” Kimmich said.
“Overall we have full confidence in him and he repays that confidence. Taking a penalty like that and scoring is a real quality. From the outside it is always seen as easy, but it is quite exceptional.”
Ten of Kane's 50 goals in the Bundesliga came from penalties, while 32 of them were with his right foot, nine with his left foot and nine with his head.
Kane is also the fastest Bayern player to score 50 league goals for the club, surpassing Robert Lewandowski's previous record of 64 games by a whopping 21 games.
The 31-year-old averages goals every 75 minutes.
“We said at half-time to just keep going and create chances,” Kane told reporters.
“Luckily we got the penalty and from that moment the game opened up.
“We have a big week ahead of us with PSG in the Champions League, and then with Dortmund [Bayer] Leverkusen in the cup.
“We are in a good moment, we feel good and we have to keep the momentum going.”
Bayern's dominance was reflected in the match statistics, with Kompany's team having 33 shots to Augsburg's two, 14 of which were on target, and amassing 3.77 expected goals (xG), while at the other end they only conceded 0.1.
But Kompany says that much more will happen.
“It is normal that it is not easy, after all it is a Bundesliga match,” he said.
“We had 33 attempts on goal and found ourselves in their penalty area very often. But we remained patient and continued to show that we wanted to score goals.
“When you are in the penalty area as often as we are, it is normal that at some point a penalty is given.
“I'm never satisfied because I always want us to get better. I know how important the win was tonight and I really appreciate it.”
