Athletic Bilbao striker Alex Berenguer and his wife were reportedly the victims of an attempted armed robbery in their house on Monday evening.

The Spanish newspaper El Correo reported that three armed men in their villa in Mungia Braken, a city in the Basque Country.

The 29-year-old football player is said to have deterred the Balaclava-clad robbers by closing a glass door, so that they did not enter the house.

Allegedly, a gun was reportedly focused on Berenguer and his model woman Sofia Jem.

The attempted theft came to an end, whereby Berenguer had informed the police during the attack.

The Spanish police started an investigation after the attempted theft, in which the thieves fled the scene.

Berenguer and his wife were both unharmed, with the couple still to give public comments after the incident.

The 29-year-old could make his 200th performance for Athletic Bilbao on Thursday in the Europa League against Viktoria Plzen.

He previously played for colleague Laliga -side Osasuna, with Club through the Club Aademie, while spending three years in Torino in Italy.

Berenguer is the newest football player who has been the target of robbers in recent years.

Brighton Player Valentin Barco's house was broken into last month, days after his model and influencer girlfriend Yaz Jaureguy agreed to become his wife.

The burglary took place in their new house in Sevilla, where Barco is currently working on his trade after he was borrowed by Brighton in his first season in the Premier League club.

Yaz Jaureguy, a 20-year-old Argentinian model, had shared photos on social media after the burglary.

Karim Benzema, Marcos Llorente, Federico Valverde, Samu Castillejo, Sergio Ramos, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Dani Carvajal belong to stars that are the target while playing in Spain.

Earlier this month, Aubameyang told his psychological trauma after armed men broke into his house in Barcelona and attacked him for his family in 2022.

An attacker hit his chin with a glove full of metal, breaking his jaw, and the violent episode left him with sleepless nights.

“I always thought about this. I have done so many nights like this: don't sleep at all, just that s ** t. You have some nightmares. I am a man who, if I am not sleeping well, I will not give (a football team) what you expect from me, I will not be at my best … every time the children are alone, they are scared, 'said Aubameyang the athletics.

“I made a mistake not to talk to anyone. If I had someone to talk to, a therapist or psychologist, it might have helped. But I didn't want to do anything. To tell you the truth, I was lost. '

Real Madrid star Carvajal claimed that 'football players are an easy target' for criminals, after his house was aimed weeks after Aubameyang's in 2022.

Carvajal had called for greater protection after a 'barrage of robberies' aimed at football players.
