Fenerbahce Chief Acun Ilicali has insisted that they are “not interested” in signing Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.
Rashford is expected to leave Old Trafford in the January transfer window, after he has fallen out of grace under Ruben Amorim. Barcelona are the front runners to sign him on loan, but their financial problems have caused some problems.
A number of other parties are connected to Rashford, including Turkish giant Fenerbahce, currently managed by former senior boss Jose Mourinho. But the vice-president of the club, Ilicali, has revealed that while they were offered the attacker, they have no interest in following a deal. “It was actually in the news yesterday that we are interested in him,” Ilicali told Sky Sports.
“I think Rashford is a fantastic player, I really like him. But at the end of the day, if you have some players in your team [who play in the same role] It is not logical to get two players in the same position that are much better than other players.
“What I will say is that these kinds of players have to play, play, play. If he comes, one of our players could not play. When it came for us, we unfortunately said no transfer for this.
“There is nothing that we are interested in him. Of course there are some rumors that spread. I can very comfortably say that we are not interested, but he is a good player.”
Rashford cannot be seen in the last 11 games of United in all competitions and Amorim brutally stated that he would rather put the 63-year-old goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital on the bench for the attacker.
“We missed a little pace to change the game and move a few pieces,” Amorim said after United's 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday. “But I prefer it. I would make vital importance before I put the player who does not give the maximum every day, so I will not change in that department.
“It is always the same reason. The reason is the training. The way I see what a football player should do in training, in life, every day. If things don't change, I will not change. The same situation for every player, I will not change If you do the maximum, if you do the right things, we can use every player. “
