Pep Guardiola sends defiant Man City message ahead of Champions League last chance

Pep Guardiola has sworn that the real Manchester City is ready to get up to save his Champions League dream.

City has to beat the Belgian side club Brugge in their last group game to qualify for a play-off that gives them the chance to reach the last 16 after a miserable European campaign, so that they have won only two of the seven games. The Four-in-a-Row Premier League champions are already out of the title race and are in a bright fight to finish in the top four.

City produced their best achievement in months to beat Chelsea on Saturday evening, but not achieving the top 24 of the new Champions League format would be a devastating blow – both financially and for Guardiola's ego.

Guardiola said: 'I know the players want it. I know how focused they are and I have no doubts. But it's football and so you never know. The situation we have is that we have to win the game and if not, we will not continue in this competition.

“However, we want to have another chance to play two more games to have the chance of the next phases. It's no problem, it's an opportunity.

“It's not personal for me. It is for the club and it would of course not be good to go out.

“But I don't think about that now. I appreciate our concern and ask what happens if we are not eligible – but I think we will do it. “
