Myles Lewis-Skelly has avoided a ban of three games after Arsenal had successfully appealed to his red card in Saturday's victory at Wolves.
The 18-year-old was controversially shown a straight red card by referee Michael Oliver in the first half of the 1-0 victory of Arsenal for downing Matt Doherty in his own half.
Lewis-Skelly became the third youngest player who was fired in the Premier League history, but the Gunners attempted to destroy the red card and the FA decision means that the versatile full-back will not be suspended .
Arsenal -Manager Mikel Arteta was left by the decision “absolutely smoking”, which was strongly criticized by fans and experts.
Arteta responded to the news at his press conference prior to the Gunners' Champions League match against Girona, and said: “I am clearly very happy that a decision has been made and Myles will be able to play again.”
Lewis-Skelly is available for the home game of Arsenal against Manchester City on Sunday, live on Sky Sport Leicester on 15 February.
Asked how Lewis-Skell took the news, Arteta said: “He slept on the plane when I looked back and I got the news, so I didn't talk to him, but I imagine a big smile on his face.”
A statement from the FA spokesperson said: “An independent regulatory committee has confirmed a claim of unlawful dismissal with regard to Myles Lewis-Skelly and removed his suspension of three games.
“The Arsenal player was sent for serious false game during their Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, January 25, 2025.”
The victor of the FA comes despite the professional game match officials Limited (PGMOL), the body responsible for the English referee, and ruled that the challenge was extremely late, the point of contact was high and video certificate supported that conclusion.
Arsenal then won the game at Wolves, who were also reduced to 10 men in the second half, thanks to the second half of Riccardo Calafiori, who kept the pressure on the Liverpool Rivals.
Lewis-Skelly trained on Tuesday with his Arsenal teammates on the London Colney-Basis of the club prior to their latest Champions League group relationship against Girona, where teammate Riccardo Calafiori has his way about the suspension of the player who was destroyed and the media told : “We are all happy [for him] – We knew it was a mistake. “
Arsenal is third in the 36 team table and are well placed to automatically move on to the last 16.
Merson: VAR should have intervened
Paul Merson from Sky Sports:
“I personally didn't think it was a red. I didn't think it was a red. I thought Michael Oliver was very sharp to get his card out.
“I thought it was very fast. But I didn't have anything against Michael Oliver. It happened quickly and he set up a red card.
“The people in VAR have to intervene. Then they have looked at this again. It happened very quickly.
“It's like you're in the playground. The child runs away from you and you want to get rid of him. But while he started stumbling, he has turned off his foot to stumble.
“Because the boy is so fast, whether he is faster than he at the time, he caught him with his ankle instead of catching him with the outside of his foot. He will try to catch him with the outside of his foot and therefore Do you have to have someone in VAR who understands football.
“If you understand football, you would look and go, no, in my opinion. It's not a broadcast. Absolutely no broadcast. But I have nothing against Michael Oliver. I have had a problem against people up in VAR that should have intervened. “
Oliver receives online abuse after Lewis-Skelly Red Card
The reaction to Oliver's decision became so serious on social media that the PGMOL made a rare public statement on Sunday that the online abuse called it had already called for a police investigation.
“We are shocked by the threats and abuse aimed at Michael Oliver after the Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Arsenal match,” they wrote.
“No civil servant may be subject to any form of abuse, let alone the disgusting attacks aimed at Michael and his family in the last 24 hours.
“The police are aware and a number of investigations have started. We support Michael and all those who have been hit and are determined to tackle this unacceptable behavior.
“Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a competition officer has recently been tackled with threats. We will continue to support all investigations.”
Arteta said: “Every time I talk about this subject, regardless of whether it is a player, a coach or a referee, it doesn't matter. We really have to work harder to try to eradicate that part of the game That brings nothing but bad things, bad taste and it makes the life of people more difficult.
'For everyone in football. You should not be allowed [to do that]. We don't want it, we don't need it and it certainly damages our sport. Let's get it out. “
Separately from the successful attraction, Sky Sports News understands that Arsenal will continue to support the PGMOL and Oliver about the abuse he has received.
When confirming their research, the British football police -unit in a statement said: “Questions are in the early stages and officers work closely with social media providers, including Facebook and X, to identify those responsible for the messages. “
PARDEW: Correct decision to overthrow Lewis-skelly Red Card
Ex-Newcastle and Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew told Sky Sports News:
“I think that's the right decision.
“Mikel Arteta after the game made it quite clear that they would appeal and the tackle was harmless to me.
“It was just a journey and I think the referee was completely wrong, so I think that was justice.”
Sky Sports News Chief Reporter Kaveh Solhekol:
“I think it only proves that the systems we already have in place work. If you have the feeling that you have hardly done, there is a process where you can appeal and it is very, very quickly heard And the correct decision has been achieved.
“Arsenal eventually won the game and Wolves also sent a player, so everything worked out.
“But we still have to talk about everything that happened around referees and the abuse and the situation we have where the police guarded the house of one of our most controversial referees – is that what we really want to become football to become nowadays? “
