Arne Slot has revealed that Liverpool “certainly works on reinforcement in the summer”, after he has only made one since the Dutchman Jurgen Klopp has replaced.
So far, Liverpool has received an excellent season, with the Reds currently six points clearly at the top of the Premier League. They also qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League with a saving competition.
However, Liverpool made only one signing last summer and completed a Cut-Price deal for Forward Federico Chiesa who has hardly characterized. They also agreed a movement for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, but that deal will only be officially completed in the summer.
The Reds is also not expected to make signing sessions in the last week of the January transfer window, with Slapp with the composition of his team. However, they are already planning for the next summer, with the future of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold all in the air.
“Liverpool must always compete for a competition title, we always have to compete for the Champions League,” Slot Gary Lineker told an interview for BBC Football Focus. “I hope I can keep the club at that level.
“I know that people sometimes question this because they have not seen us do much on the transfer market in the summer and now also in the winter. There is a reason for that – because we are happy with the team.
“But I do know that we certainly work on strengthening in the summer. So that would mean, in my opinion, that if the players continue to work so hard, we can challenge for every trophy we play for.”
Slot also admitted that he was surprised by how well his first season that is in charge has gone so far, with Liverpool suffering only two defeats in all competitions. “You don't think we will have so many points after 20 games and I didn't expect us to be the top with the margin we have,” he added.
“It is always nice to be there, but nobody expected this. I am the last person who expected [reigning champions Manchester] City to have such a bad run. “
