After eight rounds, a bundle of goals and a farewell to 12 teams, the Champions League group phase came off on Wednesday evening. Unfortunately for La Liga, Girona belonged to the bottom third of Europe for the rest of the season, but Spain did have three games progress.
Barcelona managed to finish second after a 2-2 draw with Atalanta, and with that progress at the round of 16. The care for Hansi Flick will be their defense, who with 13 goals the fourth-wore record of the teams Is that qualified. On the other hand, Barcelona had the most effective attack with 6 goals, and nobody in Europe has worked out a way to stop their front three so far.
Participating in them in the round of 16 are Atletico Madrid, who finished 5th after a comfortable 4-1 victory against RB Salzburg. They spent their European season after a worrying start with Lille and Benfica's defeats, but since then won every match and were jointly third in terms of scored goals. Atletico could, however, be confronted with a difficult draw.
Real Madrid did not have the problem that was predicted a few match days ago, 11th ended with 15 points and like Atletico, 20 goals scored. They ended up with a 3-0 win over Brest, but wait nervous to see if they play Manchester City of Celtic in the play-off round. Still in the competition, they are immediately one of the favorites and finish them in shape, but Carlo Ancelotti still has one or two problems to solve.
